Canada in FIFA World Cup 2022

Sports News 04/10/2022

Canada men’s team has qualified for FIFA World Cup 2022, to be held Qatar in November. Canada’s last and only appearance at the men’s World Cup came in 1986 in Mexico, losing all three of their matches to the teams – Soviet Union, France and Hungary without scoring a goal.

Sitting in pot four of the recent draws in Doha, Qatar, Canada was drawn with No. 2 Belgium, No. 16 Croatia and No. 24 Morocco in Group F.

Here’s what their group stage schedule for the World Cup 2022 will look like in Qatar:

Canada vs. Belgium – November 23 at 2pm ET/11am PT

Canada vs. Croatia – November 27 at 11am ET/8am PT

Canada vs. Morocco – December 1 at 10am ET/7am PT

Canada will face Belgium first, who are currently ranked second in the world and were first for more than three years atop in FIFA rankings, while Croatia is No. 16 and Morocco No. 24. Only the top two teams in the group will advance to the round of 16 at the 32-country tournament.

Canada’s head coach John Herdman was unfazed, and called it a “surreal moment” after the Canadian men’s 36-year absence from soccer’s showcase. “Everything that came out of that draw was just opportunity for this county. The players — personally, professionally — the team collectively and as a country. What an opportunity.”
